Stroke Prevention and Detection

A stroke is a medical emergency. It can trace back to a blocked artery or a leak or rupture of a blood vessel. It has two types, namely: Ischemic and Hemorrhagic strokes.

To diagnose a stroke attack, a caregiver must pay close attention to the following symptoms: difficulty speaking and understanding others, blurred or double vision, paralysis, difficulty walking, headache, dizziness, and vomiting.

If someone shows signs of stroke, think FAST and observe the following:

  • Face – drooping
  • Arms – unable to rise
  • Speech – unable to talk or speech slurs
  • Time – call 911 and report to health professionals in Missouri immediately if these signs are present

You can save someone from threats or death through fast action, attention, and caring assistance.

As nursing services providers, we must encourage seniors to lead a healthier lifestyle. They must quit smoking, exercise such as walking and running, eat healthy and balanced meals daily, rest, and have a good night’s sleep.
